The story about @ucanskate and their mission to empower women through their skateboarding community in Mexico City was recently published in @skateism Issue 9 thanks to @denia.kp & @moch_ism.

I’m proud, grateful & excited to have written and photographed this 10-page spread in this gorgeous, non-traditional skate mag that highlights stories in the skate industry “for the underground & overlooked, the weird & the wonderful”. Skateism is created & printed in Athens, Greece and distributed internationally.

The story behind the piece: I met up with the @ucanskate women, @itzelgrnds @veronly__& @belenheimm, in Mexico City in January 2020. Two months before the world was going to go into lockdown because of Covid. Obviously we had no idea.

We skated around Mexico City… enjoying the architecture & making new friends through skate. Since this day, until now, these images sat on my hard drive… waiting for the right opportunity to share them. This crew has been so incredibly patient with me as the images sat on my harddrive for over two years.

Special thanks to the @ucanskate crew for taking time to cruise around & show me their rad city from a new perspective. And thanks for doing the interviews to make these photos more meaningful by sharing your stories & about the female skate collective you’ve built that impacts & empowers other Mexican women through skate. I’m so grateful to be able to help your story be seen by others.

My goal was to create images that soaked up the culture, architecture and energy of the city juxtaposed with some rad female skateboarding (in a zone where the female skateboarding scene is very much still up and coming).

I’m beyond grateful to collaborate with amazing humans in the skate community and add a small contribution (alongside many others) to building a legacy together for the global female & inclusive/underrepresented skateboarding community.
