I’m proud, grateful & excited to have written and photographed my first, several page printed spread in a gorgeous, non-traditional skate mag that highlights stories in the skate industry “for the underground & overlooked, the weird & the wonderful”. Skateism is created & printed in Athens, Greece and distributed internationally.
Images were shot on digital, 35mm film and Polaroid.
Thanks to Josefina Tapia @jose.tapiav (Chile’s first female Olympic Skateboarding competitor) & Sophia Cook @sophzion for shooting with me after we randomly met a coffee shop in Cardiff and for being open to the interview.
Both women are inspirational- as young women, athletes, and in their partnership.
The interview is with both Josefina Tapia and Sophia Cook (seen above right to left).
They answer questions about what it’s been like for Josefina to prepare for the Olympics, how skateboarding is an important part of their relationship to themselves and to each other, and what it’s been like to be an openly gay couple in their Chilean and international skateboarding communities.
Thanks to @skateism for the opportunity to see my photos and words in print. Your magazine is the sh*t! It uplifts and showcases the epic stories of the underrepresented. What an honor to be a part of that mission.
This is a beautiful publication is available for purchase on Skateism Website. Link to buy the issue, Issue 8.
